The Story Behind Takaraa

Taking Indian Specialty Coffee to the World

The Catalyst: A Question That Changed Everything

Why does the world celebrate Colombian beans, Ethiopian origins, and Jamaican Blue Mountain—but overlook India?

India has been growing coffee for over 400 years. Our estates span the Western Ghats, one of the world's biodiversity hotspots. Our farmers cultivate beans at elevations that rival the finest coffee regions globally. Our terroir produces flavor profiles as complex as any wine region in Burgundy.

Yet when global roasters, café owners, and coffee enthusiasts think "specialty coffee," India rarely comes to mind.

That's the gap Takaraa was born to close.

The Conflict: Invisible Excellence

For decades, Indian coffee has been the world's best-kept secret—and that's been the problem.

While our farmers perfected their craft in the shade-grown estates of Chikmagalur, Coorg, and the Nilgiris, the global specialty coffee conversation happened elsewhere. Indian beans were exported in bulk, blended into anonymous commodity lots, stripped of their origin story.

The conflict wasn't quality. It was visibility. It was positioning. It was the absence of a voice that could articulate what made Indian specialty coffee extraordinary.

We realized: Indian coffee doesn't need to be fixed. It needs to be seen.

The Resolution: Custodians, Not Just Sellers

Takaraa exists to be that voice.

We are not commodity traders. We are custodians of a craft that deserves global recognition. Every lot we source tells a story—of altitude, of processing method, of the farmer's generational knowledge. Every partnership we build with cafés and roasters worldwide is an invitation to discover what India has been quietly perfecting for centuries.

Our mission is singular: To take Indian specialty coffee to the world—with integrity, intention, and timeless craft.

We do this by:

  • Sourcing with obsessive standards – Only specialty-grade beans that score 80+ on the SCA scale
  • Honoring origin transparency – Every lot is traceable to the estate, the farmer, the harvest
  • Building global partnerships – Working directly with roasters and cafés who value craft over convenience
  • Educating relentlessly – Sharing the story, science, and soul of Indian coffee

The Lesson: Respect Is Earned Through Craft

Wine wasn't born premium. Whiskey wasn't always revered. Chocolate had to earn its place as a luxury.

Indian specialty coffee is on the same journey—and we're committed to walking it with patience, precision, and pride.

We believe that Indian specialty coffee deserves the same global respect as wine, whiskey, and chocolate. Not because we say so, but because the cup proves it. Because the farmers behind it have earned it. Because the craft demands it.

Takaraa is not a brand built for virality. We're built for legacy.
